Talking Couches?

A funny story:

Jack was running between rooms, when he ran into the couch. He received a small rug burn on his nose. He was crying and we tried to use humor to make him stop crying...

Mommy: Daddy, Jack ran into the couch.
Daddy: Did you hurt the couch, Jack?
Mommy: Do you need to tell the couch you are sorry for hurting it?
Mommy: Or, should the couch tell you sorry for getting in your way?
Jack: It's not a talking couch, mommy.

Times are Different

As a library media specialist, we always talk about the 21st-century student. They are a lot different than the way we grew up. Here are my 21st-century children...

The first of many...

Today was one of those days where you feel like you should have never gotten out of bed. It's too long of a story but it involves the entire family dressed and headed out the door at 6:30am so that they can drive me all the way to Concord to drop me off at work. It's 8pm and I still don't have my car. The worst part is Holden has a fever and I'm supposed to be at the Jefferson County Board of Education for an important meeting, in the morning. Anyway, I acted pitiful enough that Jason canceled his meetings and agreed to be the one to keep Holden home. NTB has informed Jason that they will "compensate" us for our trouble, since they are the one that broke a, hard to find, part in my car.

I have a funny story to tell that invovles a friend of ours that I know reads the blog. Jack was acting bad, today, so I sent him to his bedroom until I had dinner ready. When I went up there, he was sitting on his bed with a picture frame in pieces. Here is the conversation that occured...

Mommy: "Jack, you broke your picture frame. That makes me sad. Do you know who else is going to be sad that you broke your picture frame"

Jack: "Daddy?"

Mommy: "yes, daddy will be sad, but do you know who else will be sad?"

Jack: "Marina?"

Mommy: "Well, I'm sure Marina would be sad if she knew you broke your picture frame, but I'm talking about Aunt Jennifer because she bought it for you a long time ago."

Speaking of Aunt Jennifer.... We are so excited that she and Phillip became engaged. We were all hoping it would happen soon!

Saturday Morning

I brought Jack some Tempera paint home, from school, and promised him he could paint, today. Well, it is raining, so we had to improvise. I'm not sure this was a good decision. The funny thing was that he keeps telling people about the paint that daddy bought him. I'm not sure how I lost credit for that one...

Holden's new trick...

Warning: You will probably find these videos boring, unless you are related to this cute little baby.

Sane Mornings

I am in the middle of my first week of work, with 2 kids in daycare and I have found a few things that help me keep my sanity while getting all of us out the door by 7am...

Setting out clothes....

Breakfast is ready....

Bags are packed....

And, the fridge has lunches made.

By the way, you might notice that Jack has a prepackaged Otis Spunkmeyer muffin ready for his breakfast. The kid is skinny as a rail and I am attempting some higher fat foods to put a little weight on him. Dinner tonight consisted of tenderloin, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli. The only thing he would eat was the broccoli. Also, my mom has been buying him Boost (which he likes) and I've switched back to whole milk.

Celebration

We spent last Saturday, celebrating Will's 2nd birthday. A day trip to Atlanta proved to be not too bad, for the 4 of us.

Jack is finally becoming more organized with his train tracks. Usually, he likes to build elaborate tracks that go all over the floor and don't seem to have a purpose. Tonight, he built one that made a circle and had characteristics to it...

7 months

I feel like I have driven circles around Jefferson County, this week. I was given the chance to familiarize myself with communities like Mulga, Maytown, and Minor. The 2010-2011 school year has begun! The summer re-energized me and I feel motivated to have a great year.

On another note... Holden turned 7 months old, yesterday. He is such a big, sweet boy. He loves everyone. He started daycare on Monday and did great. He has always been so easy going. Jack starts back to daycare, next Monday. He is doing well after his tonsillectomy. We had some rough nights and a bunch of mood swings, but he seems much better. I know he'll have a hard time returning to daycare, but he'll be happy to see his friends.

We are headed to Atlanta, tomorrow, to celebrate Will's 2nd birthday. I am looking forward to seeing my brother's and their families.
